Climate change remains as the biggest challenge the world has faced in the last century. A report, which has been released by the US National Atmospheric Administration, notes that trends in climate change take a negative turn. Climate changes and more and more people and animals die. Based on scenarios, the sea level will rise by nearly 60 centimeters by 2100. The average global temperature was 15.6°C in 2010 while it is estimated to hit 19.8°C by 2100.
USA and China Dodge the Column
USA and China refrains from ratifying the protocol on climate change, which was submitted for ratification in 1997 in the city of Kyoto, Japan and ratified by 194 countries thus far. Turkey ratified the protocol in 2009. USA in particular closely follows such environmental conventions of global concern but it dodges the column when it comes to ratification. The fact that both countries have yet to ratify the Kyoto protocol makes it more difficult to take measures and impose sanctions. Outperforming other countries in science, USA is beyond the grasp when it comes to why it refrains from the protocol on climate change.
Anti-theses
However, there are a great deal of scientists around the world who argue that climate change is a fantasy and there is no enough and long-term data to confirm it. To them, it is impossible to predict the future of the billion years-old globe with the limited data available. Some high-ranking decision-makers take measures just in case, and do their part to safeguard the nature. Some others take a step back, thinking “one cannot come up with such a conclusion based on a hundred years of data. So, let’s wait and see.” The odds are slim to test which arguments would prevail about climate change. That is why we should let set aside whether we can afford to believe in climate change or not, and act in line with the worst-case scenarios and take measures accordingly. So, how could we do that? Climate change is a consequence of harm done by human beings to the nature. So, our role is to pollute the nature less and less, strike a balance between conservation and usage, and hand down breathable air, clean water and soil to yield to the next generations.
Erdoğan is determined
In an effort to eliminate adverse impacts of the climate change as the leader of a country with a sense of responsibility, the Prime Minister Erdoğan ratified the Kyoto Protocol without a second thought. The Minister of Environment and Urbanization Erdoğan Bayraktar has put into action the Climate Change Action Plan, which covers the span from 2011 to 2023, and serves as a roadmap.
We now pay the price for the harm we have done to the nature throughout the history. We have to come to our senses and attach more importance to the nature than before to make sure it does not cost dearly and we compensate for the harm we have done to the nature. We have to break our old routines as a society and an individual, and act in harmony with the nature The bottom line is we need to change ourselves before the climate changes.
